“Feel beautiful, be happy. It’s as simple (and as fun!) as that.” – Sonia Allen

Sonia is sharing a very special wedding that she was a part of:

Saarika and Tim met seven years ago in their native London.  Their relationship was a progressive friendship that developed as they travelled the world together before settling in Sydney.  With guests flying in from Hong Kong, Malaysia and the USA, this fun-loving couple celebrated with two weddings.  And both were planned in only five months!

First was the Indian ceremony paying homage to their culture and heritage.  Traditions and colour were injected into the hour ceremony at Lions Gate Lodge in the Botanic Gardens, after which their guests enjoyed a delicious Indian feast, cake and dancing.  Saarika wore a beautiful Indian ivory and jungle green saari and family heirloom jewellery.  An emerging wedding planner and event co-ordinator, Saarika styled her own wedding.  Flowers, décor, lighting and the beautiful table setting were all part of Saarika’s vision for fun, vibrancy and festivities.

A few days later Saarika and Tim exchanged vows beachside in Palm Beach and followed with a reception at the Boat House.  The bridal party spent the morning relaxing in their rented Palm Beach house and enjoying the hair and make-up pampering.  Saarika wore a gown by London designer Suzanne Neville while Tim looked handsome in his Paul Smith suit.  The ceremony was again styled by Saarika and this time had a relaxed, Palm Beach influence.

I was honoured and excited to be asked to do Saarika’s make-up for both their ceremonies.  For their Indian ceremony, I was asked to design a look that complimented Saarika’s beautiful sari and was vibrant enough to work alongside the colourful theme.  We arranged a trial in the months leading up to the weddings to try a few looks out and discuss a skincare regime to ensure Saarika’s skin would be in beautiful condition.  On the morning of the wedding, I had the pleasure of doing the make-up for Saarika as well as her mum and sister, both of whom had flown in from London.  For Saarika & Tim’s Palm Beach wedding, Saarika wanted a soft, romantic look that was more reflective of how she normally wore her make up.  A beautiful Pam Beach villa was the setting for morning preparations where I worked on Saarika, her bridesmaids and mother.  I stayed to help Saarika into her beautiful gown, wished her well and told her I couldn’t wait to see the photos!

This is what Saarika had to say:

“…Once I opened my eyes, I dashed over to the mirror and gasped! Holy cow, she was right, I looked amazing!! I was just in awe of her work. I did a little happy dance!…”

The diversity, the colour, the people, the vision, the fashion, the locations, the styling all made this couple special!  Both weddings were spectacularly designed and styled and were such a wonderful celebration of love and cultures.  This was also my introduction to the customs of an Indian wedding ceremony and I enjoyed the opportunity to learn something new.

I think it is so special that Saarika and Tim were able to find a way to celebrate their commitment and love for each other in two very unique ceremonies that represent their journey together so far and that I was able to create two beautiful makeup looks for one bride!

Sonia Allen will be at One Fine Day in Sydney on September 12 & 13. So come along and speak with her about your makeup needs for your wedding day! Purchase your tickets online now.
